Climate change has caused food insecurity and water scarcity among communities as seen during droughts and different extreme weather patterns.

Women, children and the elderly are the most vulnerable group of people affected by this crisis.

Women are responsible for finding resources their family needs to survive from water for drinking, cooking, sanitation and hygiene; they walk long distances to collect water to access it.

It’s estimated that each woman living in rural communities in Africa spends 6 hours of their lifetime either looking/collecting for firewood or fetching water.

When waters run dry, people can’t get enough to drink, wash, or feed crops and economic decline may occur. In addition inadequate sanitation problem may arise as more than 2.4 billion people may be affected in a given community that leads to deadly diarrheal diseases, including cholera, typhoid fever, and other water-borne illnesses.

Many parents can’t get for their children clean water to drink which is not only a challenge, but also an impossible task. This lack of water can have deep impacts on children. It contributes to obesity, affects their performance at school and leads to other unhealthy habits.

The main climate change consequences related to water resources are increases in temperature, shifts in precipitation patterns & snow cover, a likely increase in the frequency of floods, droughts, higher temperatures that will generally intensify the global hydrological in the near future if we act.
